Pinterest projects

A few weeks ago the MOPS mammals and I decide to get our Pinterest on. If you live under a rock Pinterest is a land of stepford wives, crafting, cooking and decorating. (But I digress)

Here's the project:

*please note this pin links to a foreign, non-English website*

Supplies needed:
-dollies
-fabric paint
-sponge or sponge brush
-canvas bag
-letter stencils
-cardboard for inside the bag (to prevent bleeding though)

Step 1:

Gather all your supplies, lay everything out and place cardboard inside your bag

Step 2:

Place your doily in the desired location on your bag

Step 3:

sponge paint onto bag around the edges. Make sure that you start out lightly with very little paint and build to desired coverage. ( I had to go back and grab a pic of this step)

Step 4:

Remove doily and place letter inside stenciled area. Repeat the same paint processes as before.

Final product:

Super cute and fun right?

life changing news

Since this is my blog and I can write about anything I want, I am going to do just that today. Last week the family and I made the 2 hour trek down to see my Rheumatologist. YUCK! (I like my Dr a lot, way better then the last one, but living in the sticks stinks sometimes) and the good news is that she said my Rheumatoid is pretty mild right now. Woo hoo! However, as she is washing her hands she looks over her shoulder and says "Oh I looked at your blood tests and you have Celiac  "WHA???????

Really? You had to follow up good news with that bomb? Grrr. So now I have not one but TWO auto-immune disorders. Fabulous  For those of you who don't know celiac or not being able to eat gluten is NOT a food allergy, it's an auto-immune disorder.

So now I am in the process of tracking down foods that don't contain wheat, recipes that don't require flour, pasta, or other wheat containing ingredients. If you have never read the labels on your food, you should. You will flip out when you realize how wheat you consume on a daily basis. This is no small task, cutting gluten out of your diet is a big undertaking and it is NOT a fad diet. People are gluten free because their bodies can't process gluten, anyone who uses it as a way to loose weight is misinformed.

So now any recipes that i post will be gluten-free, but it is really easy to change them back. It's way harder to take a gluten containing recipe and make it gluten free because you end up using various types of flour trying to get what ever you are making to taste right and have the right texture.

New Year, New Me?

                                    twnn.org
Happy New Year! ( I know, I know I have been totally MIA for a bit and it's no longer new years but oh well)

Have you ever thought about resolutions? I never used to think about them, but I would always make them and usually by February they where kaput. This year however I began to question why; why do we make them? why do they matter? and why is January 1 somehow different from December 31? Does anything really change in that magical moment between the two dates?

The truth is that nothing really changes, there is not magic switch that flips making it possible for you to finally achieve all the goals that have somehow eluded you in the years past. If you want to really make a change, a new start, even a new you don't wait for some arbitrary date just do it!

This year I am not making promises that I know I can't keep, but I am going to focus on working towards a goal, something long term that I know I will have to keep working on. This year i am working towards being a happier, healthier me. I know that this is not an easy task but I feel like I have made good progress in 2012 and I am excited to see what I can achieve in 2013.

What are your goals? How are you going to work towards them?
